The village is situated on a headland several hundred feet above the Dove valley and there are magnificent views to the north toward the Weaver and Derbyshire Hills. The Parish Church of St Werburgh is a well known landmark and dates from the thirteenth century. The mining of gypsum is an important industry in the hamlet of Fauld - famous as the site of the biggest explosion this country has ever known.
