Rolleston is now, and always has been, part of an agricultural community. Despite its name, the village does not lie on the River Dove, but on a small tributary called the Alder Brook. This along with St Mary's Parish Church (part of which dates back to the twelfth century) and the Spread Eagle Hotel provides a most attractive setting in the village centre. The willow-lined brook, with its brick wall and ornamental piers and footbridges is reminiscent of Cotswold country. The village has several shops, a post office and the Brookhouse Hotel. On the outskirts of the village lies The Craythorne golf club and the Dovecliff Hall Hotel.
